Hacks for Getting Rid of Cellulite

Hacks for Getting Rid of Cellulite

Cellulite is normal body fat with one conspicuous exception — it collects just below (and pushes up against) your sub-epidermal connective tissues, making the surface of your skin appear lumpy, puckered, or dimpled.

Cellulite is exceptionally common, particularly among women. In fact, between 80% and 90% of females develop some degree of cellulite once they’ve gone through puberty. It develops on the thighs, buttocks, and stomach most often, but can also appear on the upper arms and breasts. Less than 10% of men get cellulite.

Genetic predisposition, age, body weight, and skin thickness and resilience are a few factors that can influence how much cellulite you have, and how prominent it appears. But for as normal as it is to have cellulite, most women wish there was a way to get rid of it or reduce its appearance.

As body contouring experts who specialize in cellulite treatment, our skilled team at Smooth Body Contours has come up with a list of seven effective cellulite hacks to help you do just that.

1. Adopt an anti-cellulite fitness routine

While exercise can’t spot-reduce unwanted areas of fat and cellulite, the right fitness plan can go a long way in helping you maintain a lean, tight physique. To minimize the appearance of cellulite on your buttocks, thighs, and belly, combine brisk aerobic (fat-burning) workouts with targeted resistance exercises that keep your muscles strong and toned.

2. Choose wholesome, high-fiber foods

Although anyone can develop cellulite, you’re more likely to have it — and it’s more likely to be noticeable — if you’re carrying extra weight, especially in cellulite-prone body areas.

An easy way to keep your weight in check? Fill at least half of your plate with fruits, veggies, whole grains, and other high-fiber foods that are full of nutrients and low in calories. Fill the other half with lean proteins and healthy fats, and skip the high-calorie, nutrient-deficient processed foods.

3. Reach a healthier body weight

Women of all sizes and physiques can get cellulite — including naturally thin women who’ve never been overweight. But if you are overweight, those extra pounds may be making your cellulite more visible. Simply put: If you’re overweight, losing a few pounds can go a long way in reducing the appearance of cellulite.

Healthy weight loss happens gradually, using the methods we’ve mentioned above (increased physical activity and wholesome eating habits). Losing weight too quickly — or losing weight only to gain it all back and then some — can make cellulite look worse in the long run.

4. Stop smoking to support healthier skin

Tobacco use diminishes the blood supply to your epidermal tissues, leaving your skin with less oxygen and fewer nutrients than it requires. Over time, these critical deficiencies weaken your collagen and elastin structures and make your skin thinner, saggier, and less resilient.

Just as strong, supple, and resilient skin helps obscure cellulite, thin, saggy skin that’s less resilient makes cellulite look more prominent.

5. Add firming lotion to your beauty regimen

Daily firming lotions like to promise they can make your cellulite disappear, but they can’t — no topical treatment can. What a firming cream can possibly do for you, however, is reduce the appearance of cellulite by making your skin appear firmer, stronger, and smoother.

When selecting a skin-firming lotion, look for one that contains at least 0.3% retinol. Derived from vitamin A, this natural retinoid ingredient goes deep beneath the surface of your skin to boost the production of collagen and elastin and help fortify your skin. It takes about six months to see noticeable skin-firming benefits.

6. Try manual cellulite reduction therapy

When simple cellulite hacks don’t work as well as you’d like, it may be time for a more effective, centuries-old treatment approach called manual cellulite reduction — also known as wood therapy.

At Smooth Body Contours, we perform wood therapy using a variety of textured, grooved, or contoured wooden tools that look a bit like fancy rolling pins. Massaging unwanted areas of cellulite with these wooden tools helps release tight connective tissue, increase lymphatic drainage, and smooth out dimpled skin tissue. Most women see amazing results in just a few 40-minute sessions.

7. Spot-reduce stubborn areas of cellulite

Minimally invasive, nonsurgical fat reduction treatments may be able to help you get rid of stubborn cellulite by spot-reducing the areas of persistent fat where it occurs, such as your thighs, buttocks, or midsection.

Fat freezing gets rid of unwanted fat and tightens your skin to reduce the appearance of cellulite; nonsurgical laser liposuction followed by drainage massage is another great way to spot-reduce areas of unwanted fat as you tighten and smooth your skin. Some women get rid of cellulite through a treatment course of fat dissolving injections followed by manual cellulite reduction therapy.
